This CEO Style pen features Banyan wood. The pen is made from the first banyan tree in the U.S. that was planted by Thomas Alva Edison in Fort Myers, Florida. Thomas Alva Edison (February 11, 1847 – October 18, 1931) was an American inventor and businessman who developed many devices that greatly influenced life around the world, including the phonograph and a long lasting light bulb. Dubbed "The Wizard of Menlo Park" by a newspaper reporter, he was one of the first inventors to apply the principles of mass production to the process of invention, and therefore is often credited with the creation of the first industrial research laboratory. Edison is considered one of the most prolific inventors in history, holding 1,093 U.S. patents in his name, as well as many patents in the United Kingdom, France and Germany. The tree used in this pen was given to Thomas Edison by Harvey Firestone after Firestone visited Calcutta, India in 1925 and was planted at the Edison Winter Estate. Thomas Edison, Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone were pursuing a domestic source for rubber at the time and believed this tree could help. This tree produces a milky sap that could be used for rubber. The tree, originally only 4 feet (1.2 m) tall, now covers over 400 feet (120 m). The tree is now known to be the largest in the United States and second largest in the world. This wood was personally selected and transported across the U.S. from winter estate of Thomas Edison. This tree is a currently a signature tree at the Edison Estate and a Florida Champion tree. This pen comes with Edison’s bust engraved on the upper portion of the pen, a presentation box with glass engraved and a certificate of authenticity. The pen offers a rich 22k gold hand-cast engraved insets on the cap and barrel ends surrounded by brilliant Rhodium plating (Rhodium is a member of the Platinum family). This pen is available as a smooth flowing German made Schmidt® rollerball, Iridium tipped medium fountain or both/dual. An upgraded fountain nib in 18kt gold is also available.
